I was in the Apple store the other day buying a new computer when I was suckered into buying those cool, new, wireless headphones. I can’t tell you how many times the wires from my headphones got stuck on something and nearly ripped my earlobes off. I practically had to buy them… you know, for the safety and preservation of my earlobes.
When I got home, I showed my husband my new impulse purchase and his Debbie Downer response was, “babe, those things are searching for a signal right next to your brain. The EMF’s are probably out of control” Wah-Wah.
Vocab word of the day: Electromagnetic Fields (EMF), i.e. fields of electromagnetic radiations created by objects, like the sun, powerlines, cell phones, and wifi.
Since I’m a huge hippie I’ve known about EMF’s for some time. I have the little EMF blockers on my computer and cell phone, but for some reason, I totally spaced when it came to thinking about those wireless headphones.
I decided to dive a little deeper into the research, and well, let’s just say I’m the proud owner of many new EMF blocker devices, all of which I will share with you below. But first, a little edu-ma-cation.
While EMFs have been around since the Big Bang, over the last fifty years the use of personal devices and wifi have exploded, making the level of EMFs we are exposed to billions of times higher than our ancestors. Billions! When I think about big changes like that I want to know the dangers and what, if anything, I need to do to protect my health.
The problem is that we don’t have a lot of good data regarding the health impacts of constantly being exposed to this type of radiation. While EMFs are on researchers’ radar, they have a hard time teasing out if a disease is being caused by EMFs or something else entirely, but the research we do have is revealing some pretty scary stuff.

But this isn’t all doom and gloom - because unless you're willing to move totally off the grid you don't have full control of your exposure. But you can take measures into your own hands to reduce your exposure to EMFs and limit their impact on your health by doing the following...
- Turn off the wifi when you sleep
- Keep devices out of your bedroom and, if possible, turned off while you are sleeping
- Buy a protector for your phone like this one
- Buy a protector for your laptop like this one
- Buy EMF blocking headphones like the ones I just bought

- Opt to avoid airport security screening and get a pat down instead (free massage)
You can call me crazy, or super pregnant and paranoid, but for a few hundred bucks I’m able to protect myself, and my computer no longer gets hot when it’s on my lap.
