FEEL FRIGGIN’ FANTASTIC

Holiday Party

Holiday parties are in full swing... not for me though, because miraculously I don't get invited to many (is that because my friends want to eat crap without me around? Where are my invites?!)

Don't let the instant gratification and temptations sacrifice what you want MOST for what you happen to want RIGHT NOW.

Not because you worked so hard (well yes, because of that) but because the instant gratification lasts about 3 minutes and then you are stuck with the consequences all year long.

Here are some tips to help you get through the parties and feel proud of yourself the next morning:

Eat before you go. If you aren’t sure what type of food will be waiting to greet you at the door, do not make the mistake of showing up hungry.

When in doubt, eat crudité and hummus. Name one holiday party you have attended that doesn’t have raw veggies and hummus... bet you can’t do it! (Avoid the sour cream trans fat dip. Yes it's delicious and no it's not even close to being healthy.)

O.P.R. You know it well by now: stick to one plate and enjoy what you will.

Pick your poison. Alcohol, dessert, fried finger foods… someone stop me! Pick one treat to have, and fill up on the healthy stuff.

Drink clear liquor. Clear liquor is best, and drink water in between so you wake up the next day looking remarkably fresh and fantastic. (watch this video for a laugh... and a good explanation on the best types of alcohol... disclaimer: I don't know what I'm talking about)

Make it about the company, not the food. We tend to stuff our face when we feel socially awkward. “Oh look there’s Tom’s annoying boss. Let me just stuff my face with these mini hot dogs and he won’t try to talk to me.” Sound familiar? Try to focus on the people, and if the party sucks, don’t eat, LEAVE!

Weekly Meal Prep

Crock Pot Brisket with Cole Slaw and Sautéed Broccoli

“Pasta” Primavera with EVOO, Fresh Basil - You can keep this vegan or add sausage to it (or any protein for that matter)

Crispy Chicken Thighs with Roasted Root Vegetables - If you remember I made the crispy chicken thighs last week and they were so amazing that I’m making them again with a different assortment of veggies.

Hotdogs with Baked Beans and Salad - Yep, I love hotdogs or what my cousin Gab lovingly calls “lips and a$$holes”. I would never touch a regular hotdog, gross. I only buy hotdogs from Whole Foods (the nitrate free, organic kind). I love this meal because it reminds me of being a kid eating at a backyard BBQ. You can buy baked beans already made, just watch the sugar content. Make a big salad that has pickles on it and you are reliving the golden days. This is a once in a while meal, but it’s quick and delicious.
